$3.3 million secures Brisbane’s festivals

Written on the 09 June, 2010

The future of Brisbane’s vibrant and diverse festival scene has been secured with a $3.3 million commitment in this year’s Council budget.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said he was committed to making Brisbane a culturally diverse place to live.

“Brisbane is a vibrant city with opportunities for all residents, workers and visitors to participate in cultural and recreational activities,” he said.

“Our funding for festivals is designed to foster inclusive and stronger communities.”

The festivals and events funded by Council include everything from street parties to music concerts, poetry meets, dance events, sustainable living festivals, children’s fiestas, film events and multicultural celebrations.

“Events encourage residents and visitors to participate and feel part of our community while showing off our city’s open spaces and venues,” Cr Newman said.

“They stimulate links between business and community and encourage both emerging and established artists to use Brisbane as a platform for their creativity.”

“Community events are also an opportunity to celebrate our city’s cultural diversity.”

Consistent with grants and application procedures, funding has been allocated to the following events:
